Five state-managed airports to receive new airport layout plans

Woodland, Lower Granite, Stehekin, Easton and Sullivan Lake state airports are each slated to receive a new airport layout plan (ALP) during the next two years. This is the first step toward making five, 10 and 20-year plans for improvement projects at these airports.

To develop the ALPs and narrative reports, the Washington State Department of Transportation and its selected consultant will inventory each airport, describe deficiencies and needs, and recommend site specific capital projects that would bring the airports into compliance with federal standards and state performance objectives.

WSDOT Aviation chose the five airports, in coordination with the Washington Army National Guard, to study and improve the facilities for emergency management staging purposes. The state-managed airports support a variety of emergency services including firefighting and medical evacuation.

Recently, WSDOT solicited interest from consultants wanting to submit a Statement of Qualifications for the multiple ALP project, with a closing date of March 26.

WSDOT will seek stakeholder input during the project.

WSDOT manages 16 airports across the state. In addition to emergency services, the airports provide recreational opportunities, access to remote communities and support local economies.
