Adopt-an-Airport volunteers needed at state-managed airports
The Washington State Department of Transportation seeks volunteers interested in preparing the 16 airports it manages across the state for the 2014 spring and summer flying seasons.
As part of its Adopt-an-Airport program, WSDOT works with volunteer groups to assist with basic cleaning and routine maintenance of the airports. The maintenance work readies the airports before their typical spring and summer openings. Most state-managed airports reopen for the season June 1 and remain open for about four months.
To sign up, volunteer groups should complete the forms on the Adopt-an-Airport website, email Paul Wolf or call 360-651-6313 for more information. WSDOT encourages volunteers to sign up early to ensure a spot on the 2014 work party schedule.
Volunteers also have the opportunity to provide valuable feedback on potential safety, maintenance and improvement projects needed at the facilities.
WSDOT manages 16 airports across the state. In addition to emergency services, the airports provide recreational opportunities, access to remote communities and support for local economies.
